ISO Class 5 research and development imaging cleanroom – Guildford
Clean Room Construction was appointed by award-winning aerospace company Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL) on a full turnkey basis to design, fit out and validate a new ISO Class 5 research and development imaging cleanroom.
This new cutting-edge cleanroom, at the company’s headquarters on the Surrey Research Park in Guildford, has been tailored to meet the stringent environmental conditions required for developing and testing sophisticated optical imagers. These optical imagers form a key part of SSTL’s Earth observation satellites. They support a wide range of advanced missions and applications, from monitoring floods and wildfires to delivering intelligence and reconnaissance services.
The scope of work included handling all construction work to partition an existing space to enable the build of a new secure ISO Class 5 cleanroom. The internal fit-out included all mechanical and electrical services, HVAC systems and controls, process gases, a laser interlock system and all black finishes to meet the client’s stringent optical imaging requirements.
More details about the new 134m2 cleanroom can be found in a Cleanroom Technology feature HERE and in a video marking the official opening of the new facility HERE (courtesy of UK Space Agency).
Contract value: Circa £1 million
