Process chilled water system – Northampton

Clean Room Construction (CRC) worked with Lumentum, a global leader in optical and photonic technologies, to design and build a bespoke process chilled water system to provide high purity cooling water to their newly installed process tools.

CRC designed and installed a dual loop system to meet the high purity requirements for the process equipment. This system consisted of a primary 461kW chiller with 160 metres of steel pipework, and a high purity cooling water (HPCW) distribution system. The distribution system incorporated a plate heat exchanger, UV filtration, 5-micron filter, 2,000 litre break tank and analytical instruments.

Due to space constraints, the fully automatic HPCW system was split onto separate skids and built and tested off site. It was then taken apart, brought to site, re-assembled and commissioned. The high purity cooling water is distributed to the client equipment in 316 dairy-grade stainless steel pipework, with permanent orbital welded joints.

The system delivers up to 35m3/hr of high purity cooling water to four separate process tools, with a combined 450kW of heat load.

Contract value: £1.1 million
