Powder handling area

A global specialist precious metals group employed Clean Room Construction (CRC) as the principal contractor for the design, supply, installation, commissioning, cleaning and testing of a new powder handling area for a 3D printing project.

CRC designed, installed and commissioned three new rooms for use as a powder handling area on the ground floor of an existing production area for the company, a leading specialist in the fabrication and refining of a wide range of products made of platinum group metals (PGM).

The facilities include a toxic powder area, ATEX-rated powder handling booth, changing area and non-toxic powder area.

The 175m² installation also includes modular partitioning and control systems both capable of future expansion or modification.

The changing area incorporates a traffic light door interlocking system while the control panel has been designed to control room temperature, air handling fan speed, heating and cooling systems.

An air handling unit was fitted externally to feed conditioned air into the new rooms via the supply ductwork system and ceiling mounted grilles.

Contract Value: Circa £212,000
