Centre for Advanced Photonics and Electronics (CAPE) - Cambridge

Clean Room Construction designed, built and commissioned a state-of-the-art research and development centre for the University of Cambridge's electrical engineering division.

The purpose-built Centre for Advanced Photonics and Electronics (CAPE) was divided into two wings so as to provide three levels of academic office and plant space on the south side and four levels of cleanroom, laboratory and plant space on the north side. The areas were linked by a series of footbridges through a common atrium area.

CRC's element in the 4,000m2 fast-track project included the complete design, supply and commissioning of ISO Class 5, 6 and 7 cleanrooms, general research and electronics laboratories and chemical laboratories. CRC was also responsible for providing air conditioning to office floors/areas for academic study as well as designing, supplying and commissioning ancillary plant areas, gas bottle stores, gas detection systems and M&E services. The project included the removal, relocation and integration of an existing cleanroom from France.
